Age 55. Dentist, grad UCSF 1977 with DDS, grad 1971 UCI with B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. Private practice in dentistry 26 years, taught dentistry at UCSF for 20 years.

Married 13 years to Rose Shirinian, KTSF Ch. 26 manager of news and public affairs; one 12 year old son, Evan.
Raised in Pasadena and Orange County, Pasadena High Class ’67. There were basically 3 groups in which a high school guy could belong in So. Cal in the 60’s: sports jocks, surfers, or car guys. Since I qualified for neither of the first two, I became involved with the third. Cars and racing have been a passion of mine ever since.
Attended first race at Riverside Int’l Raceway, Jan. ’66, NASCAR. Met Richard Petty. Became Sports Car Club of America corner worker in 1971; SCCA National Race Observer for 12 years. Began Autocrossing in 1985 with Toyota Celica, won several Regional and Divisional Championships, won Vallejo Grand Prix street autocross three years in a row, ’86-’88.
Qualified for SCCA comp. license in 1988. Road raced ’72 BMW 2002tii. Built and raced a ’71 Datsun 240Z from ’93 to ’98…won many races, set a few track records. Moved up to GTAmerica in ’99 with a Pontiac Grand Prix. See description on next page. Won GTA Regional Class Championship in 2000. New chassis-up rebuild in 2003. This car made its maiden race three weeks ago in the pouring rain at Thunderhill Raceway Park, where it finished second.
I have done one-off races in many other cars, in Enduro races of 3, 4, 6, or 12 hours in length, where we have either won or finished at least top three in class. Raced in Mazda Miata Challenge Cup series in 2002, finished 7th out of 45 in rain at Thunderhill in November of ’02.
Instructed at over 50 driver schools put on by SCCA, BMW club, NASA, and other marquee clubs. I have written 42 monthly articles for The Wheel, the official publication of San Francisco Region of the SCCA.
Ambition: To work with a sponsor as a business partner to race in selected pro events such as Trans Am, Grand Am, Daytona 24 Hours, and Sebring 12 Hours races, and National GT-1 races.
Other race interests: my 125cc ICC kart, and kart enduros.
Hobbies and other interests: classical music, especially Mozart operas and Renaissance polyphonic Latin church music which are sung a cappella in small groups; belong to San Francisco City Chorus. Downhill skiing. Downhill dirt bike riding, especially at ski resorts in the summer.
Favorites: Current racer – Sam Hornish; Past racer – Dan Gurney; Team owner – Roger Penske; Road race track – all are great, but best for club has to be Thunderhill. Movie – The Red Violin; Book – I Claudius; City – San Francisco.
